Manuscript found near a man with a hat buried just here 15 meters down.

I shall never forgive myself for doffing my hat as Mr D... passed by. I hate him so much for dispossessing me. Why did I take my hat off to him? I must bury this cursed hat; I've got to forget this terrible thing I've done.
To make a hole, I'm digging out the soil with my hat. I'm going to dig down until my arm is too short to pull out any more hatfuls of earth. But I don't know how far I'll go down, because the heavier the soil is with my cowardice, the more I feel it belongs to me and to no-one else.

I wanted to prove to everybody that the law of gravity was stronger than we had thought. That if we remained static, we would carry on sinking into the ground. That only movement keeps us on the surface of the ground.
Now that I am already a good way down, I have to write the truth. Even if no-one were to make another move, we would all remain on the surface of the earth. What is pushing me down is only the vibrations caused by all these people who cannot keep still for a minute.

Manuscript found near a man with a dog buried just here 120 meters down.

My dog,
When you died, I buried you on this spot. But I kept in the habit of talking to you in the street as if you were still trotting alongside me. I could so feel your presence by my side that I had to come back here to check if you had reacted to what I was saying to you.
I must bury you much deeper down. I have to make sure I won't be seeing you whenever I say something. This way, I would only come to see you after saying something really worthwhile.
